How to remove voicemail notifications

How do I remove a voicemail notification WITHOUT having to listen to it?

I'm getting significantly irritated by this forceful experience. It should be the users choice to listen to their voicemail, or to simply remove that silent notification.

To continually be forced to listen to so voicemails, every day... Just so I can delete it.... Not cool.

Please tell me there is a way to stop this hell, and actually remove this infuriating silent notification?

Typically a person needs to listen to a voicemail first and or delete it.
