Other SmartphonesHi Chris,
The phone will prefer to use wifi over mobile data as most users have a data limit with their networks whereas wifi usually has a much higher limit or is unlimited. On top of this the wifi networks in our homes are often stronger and more stable as the connection is being broadcast from within our homes as opposed to mobile data which comes from a mast somewhere in your town.
If you are one of the lucky few where your mobile data stronger than wifi and you want the phone to utilise the best method available then there is a setting you can turn on.
In your wifi network list you will have an option button, here you will find "Smart Network Switch". This will choose wifi or mobile data depending on which is the best.
With "Smart Network Switch" enabled please be careful and watch for excessive data usage, there is a data limiter option within the settings menu to help you to monitor it.
Hope this help you out Chris, hit the Kudos button if you found this useful.

Hi,
Since most users have data limits with their networks, the phone tends to prefer wifi over mobile data. WiFi usually has an unlimited limit or has a higher data limit. In addition, WiFi networks in our homes are usually stronger and more stable since the connection comes from inside our homes instead of coming from an outside mast.
