Hi, I bought an unlocked Galaxy S8(G950F) in February last year and for some reason i'm not receiving any updates.

I have tried wiping cache which didnt do anything as well as trying to update the phone with SmartSwitch but it also displays that the phone is up to date.

I'm afraid that this will also be a problem when the Pie update hits the S8.

Im still on G950FXXU1AQJ5 baseband v and my last kernel and SE update is from 26 OCT 2017.

I currently have an EE Sim inside the phone and XEU CSC.

Hi @Ninboja

May I ask who you bought the Samsung phone from ?

The XEU CsC is usually a Samsung phone that's unlocked to all networks but not supplied directly by Samsung.

The unlocked Samsung phones supplied directly by Samsung are BTU CsC coded.

If I remember correctly through Tesco Direct and it was supplied by Box.co.uk I believe.

Ok.

It's remotely possible that your phone could have been released for use in another country.

i.e. a grey import.

You could then be reliant on updates from that other country.

The app phoneINFO from the Playstore may offer further insight.

I have used that app and the country of origin of the phone is Vietnam and CSC country displays as UK & IRE / GB, not sure if there any other details I should look for.

The code you put was G950F which if I'm right is a Samsung Galaxy s8 For Europe, Global Single-SIM.

Some UK companies have been known to source phones that were originally released for other countries and supply them.

Is there anyway of fidning out what country it has been meant for any is there anything I can do to make it a UK phone or receive the updates? (Except rooting the phone ans installing new updates manually). It apparently had a 2 year warranty, would that be worth a shot or contacting the seller?

Hey @Ninboja

If you drop me a PM with your Serial Number and IMEI, I can check my internal system to see if you're phone is a EU model. I may not be able to get the exact country, but it will at least narrow it down slightly for you.

Installing a custom rom is an option if it turns out to be a non UK model but extreme care must be taken.

The xdadevelopers site is a good starting point.

That or yes broach the subject with the original seller.

Thank you for your time, I'm currently trying to avoid installing a custom rom since I'm not sure how it would affect warranty, knox and if I would have to manually install everything in the future too? Anyway will try to contact the seller first and will post an update if I get anywhere with that.
