Galaxy S8 call volume very low

Hi all since the last update a few weeks ago the volume during a call is really low, I've tried all the trouble shooting and turning up the volume during a call but everything is maxed out.

This is my work phone and I work for my self so it is very important that I can hear and understand what potential customers are asking me.

Having the phone in loud speaker just to hear is not good.

My media and other things work fine it's just the ear piece volume that's not working even with pressing the extra volume button during a call nothing changes.

The phones only a few months old I had it the week before official launch.

Argh please help.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

also had this same annoying issue for a while, The volume is extremely low when calling people to the point where I have to put every call on loud speaker. this problem has only started today for no reason. I have tried restarting my phone and it's still the same. Tried checking online or if anybody  knew were having the same problem or knew how to fix?

Let's try some troubleshooting steps.

  1. Are all your Apps are up to date? You have 2 places that you need to look. Google Play store and Galaxy app store. Go to both and check My Apps. Make sure there is no app that needs updating.
  2. Is your phone OS up to date? Go to Settings, About phone and check for software update. Make sure you have the latest phone software.
  3. Clear phone cache. Instructions are here
  4. Clear Application cache and sometime Application data. Instructions are here
  5. Restart your phone in Safe mode. This is just to help you isolate the issue if it is caused by 3rd part apps. Instructions are here

If those don't help. You can check out the other suggestions here: https://gettechmedia.com/fix-call-volume-low-galaxy-s8-galaxy-s8-plus/

Sounds simple but.

Get some blu tac tac press firmly over the ear piece then take it off.

This piece easily becomes clogged with dirt and dust.

You will probably notice the dirt on the blu tack

Do this a few times and try making a call again.

Thanks

OMG.  Such a simple solution and I have been doing my head in about it and tried so many other things and concluded that my S8 is past its use-by date and I needed a new phone.  So simple - thank you!

i have the exact same problem. i purchased my S8 in November 2017. By December just before christmas it was sent for repair for the earpiece volume being far too low. I had it back around 2 weeks later the problem was fixed. it didn't last very long as by February the same problem happened again. it was again repaired and returned to me. Again the problem returned in May so i called the customer services of where i purchased the phone and they replaced the handset. It is now only July so ive had the new handset for all of 6 weeks maximum and its now happened with this one too. im guessing its a fault with the batch of phones maybe im not sure  but I'm not happy at all. another trip to the supplier and i will probably be fobbed off with another repair which probably won't last. i really dont want to continue paying for a phone that doesnt function properly after a few weeks

to be honest id rather not try blu tac on my phone it could invalidate the warranty if it doesnt work and has to go for repair anyway. if they find blu tac stuck in the earpiece they will possibly say i caused the problem myself. rather send it in without it being messed with

Your choice, I am only offering a solution, which is one that definitely would not invalidate your warranty and potentially could save you a lot of money.
Either way, hope you find a solution that works for you

its not costing me a thing to repair as its under warranty as per my contract

I'm glad I came across this.  My phone is past warranty and I was just going to replace it since I could only use the speaker phone for effective conversation.  I used a few swipes of regular brown masking tape and my volume is back to normal.  Such a simple solution and much appreicated.  Saved me a good bit of money.

My wife made cookies for Christmas and of course flour seemed to go into the earphone of her SG 8+.., so conversation sound was so low and muted..., I think that it was from bad update a few days ago.. but it was not...., so I read all of this posts, update all I can from Google play and Samsung store, clean with alcohol, secret menu (*#0#*) trick which not works,  and finally use of some Sound booster (which helps a bit....), but nothing helped like this:

Duct tape over the earphone and push carefully so that surface glue from duct tape can pick up all dust and dirt inside mesh of earphone..., a few times repeat.., and voila.., earphone sound is better than before...!!! Solved...!!!!!

I know this is an old message but thought I'd add my response for anyone looking.  I didnt have blue tac but just used tape after seeing this thread and it worked for me!

Your Blu tack solution, although low tech, is an absolute stroke of genius! It's as if there was never even a problem at all.

I also found a solution on youtube. it's very easy. I had this same issue for 2q days, and before that my ear speaker was working perfectly. I did the new update on the phone and that's when the problem started. not sure if that update had anything to do with the issue, but this helped me solve the problem.

here's the video

If you go into settings then sounds you need to click on ' mute all sounds' then unclick it and hey presto my call volume is really loud and clear.

this ABSOLUTELY works!   i tried the soft clean of the speaker, a little better, but not great.  you will need to search in Settings for "mute all sounds".  it is a little tricky to find.  Press "M,A,S."  and then unclick it.  Your phone should now work.

Hi, i just solved speaker problem. I did clean up speaker grill from all debris using fine bristles brush. Speakers grill opening are to small and easily get clogged. Now problem solved and I'm happy with my low budget solution. Thanks

I had the same issue, one day my calls where just quieter. Tried updates, restart etc. But I found an effective fix. Once you are on a call, not on a headset, click the 3 elipses on the top right of the call controls and click "enable extra volume". Worked for me, call volume back to "normal". I guess I lent on the phone with my ear or something to disable to extra volume without knowing it.
