Galaxy J7 16GB , No storage

I have no storage space left in my mobile.  I have erased everything possible, emptied cache etc. 
Do i gain more space by placing in a new bigger memory card, for example 64GB? There  are 2 slots for memory cards, meaning that there is one free area for a second card. Will it work?

I went to a shop today and bought a 64 GB micro SD, the shop assistant mounted it in my device telling that the photos now would automatically be directed to this new card.

I am a bit confused though. Why can´t I see anything? The settings read storage: 780 MB, memory 1 GB.           I don´t find anything about the SD card.
