Hi community, please could someone assure me I'm not going crazy.
I recently ordered a number of Galaxy J4plus through my company for some of our colleagues - model no. SM-J415FZKPBTU. This is supposed to be a dual SIM device. I know what dual SIM devices look like and how to install two SIM cards. This much is pretty straight forward.
However, on these devices, the second SIM tray - which forms part of the SD card tray - does not accept a SIM card. I have contacted Samsung support via email twice now to try and explain this, but they are providing standard resposnes based on how to install a SIM card. This isn't my issue.
The SIM tray does not accept a SIM card (nano) and even if you manage to position/balance the SIM on it, it doesn't fit into the slot. The tray is blocked/impeded by design. The first SIM tray is a normal SIM template/surround into which a SIM card would sit normally into. This isn't the case for the second SIM tray.
My colleagues have confirmed the same. I have sent photos to Samsung email support yet they do not seem to grasp what I am saying. Has anyone else come across this or am I going crazy?
Thanks!

Thanks for your response Andrew.
Yes the SIM card and tray is the correct way up. The tray itself does have an outline of the SIM shape but you can only balance a SIM card on top - it doesn't fit snug like you would expect. The normal single SIM tray is absolutely fine but it's just this strange SD tray that is causing the issue.
We have purchased three devices thus far from two separate suppliers to our company, and I have another six on order (although we wouldn't necessarily be using the dual SIM feature for all of them).
When I look at the manual and the details Samsung email support sent, it shows images of a regular SIM card slot into which you could expect to place a nano SIM card into. These devices do not accept a SIM card.

Just to add to the discussion:
The SD/2nd SIM tray of the Galaxy J4plus we have is made in the same way as the SD tray found in a Galaxy J3 (2017).

I noticed the same thing, after looking into this, it seems this is a single sim model, when scrolling through the settings menu under connections/sim card manager does not appear as it would in the dual sim model. in the user manual the different models are listed SM-J415FN underneath is SM-J415FN/DS, I assume single & dual sim models.

Yes I have the same issue. This is strange too. What are the two compartments for with the one that supposed to put a memory card? The nano sim cannot fit into the sim. So, what says to be dual sim is actually a single sim only. Too bad. I now look into the web to see if I can find a sim tray that can replace this strange one to put a sim and a memory card. I do not want to lose the usage of dual sim.

My J3 2017 is similar. I was told changing sim tray will not be enough. I would like the dual sim to work. Any ideas??

Check your phone information in the settings. If your device has 2 IMEI numbers then yes, it can support 2 SIM.
