Hi,
I really like my S7 Edge. However as a direct result of installing the Oreo update I have significant battery drain. The drain is attributable to cell standby which sometimes reaches over 50% of battery use. It definitely did not do this on Nougat, ever.
I have not added any apps to cause this problem and would really like a suggestion about what to do. I can't believe Safe Mode will have any effect as this has happened as a result of the upgrade, not rogue apps. I am not keen to do a factory reset either as I can't see the benefit. I have cleared the cache, removed some apps, restarted etc, turned off any battery hungry options in settings but to no avail.
If anybody could help me I would be very grateful. I believe it is a bug in Oreo or Samsung's altered version of Oreo but cannot prove either. I can't think what to do apart from find out how to downgrade back to Nougat, which I don't want to do.
Many thanks.

Other SmartphonesI got an OTA update yesterday (340mb- erg2) on my S7 flat, and although it's too early to tell, the battery drain looks better on 4G.
I've noticed using gsam that before this OTA update, under the application details, kernel (android OS) and android system were consuming around 35% of the battery used by apps. Now it's down to 13%.
The global battery consumption looks more balanced between the screen and the app usage. I'll keep you updated.

So, no magic bullet for me yet. (
@Anonymous User phone has been on 4g for 20 hours, as well as 2*8 hours of airplane mode. With SOT @ 2h20, I'm left with around 25% this morning. It feels better, previously I would never reach the second night.
However for some reason, while in airplane mode, battery decreased by 6% last night, which seems quite high (1/2% previously).

I'm running the latest ERG2 modem on my S7 flat and last night I put the phone in airplane mode for 5 hours and slept and when I woke up, battery drain was 0%.

Yeah, I've wiped the cache today, I'll see tomorrow morning. Might be just temporary.

Other SmartphonesOk so after 2 days of use I have noticed a couple of things. The cell standby drain has gone, I've gone all day on 4g and Cell Standby is 2%. All stats are more balanced, ranging from 6% device idle to 1% for Gmail. However battery life for me is no better. At this stage of the day, just home from work I should be over 50% battery. I'm now at 43% with same usage. I also mentioned above I've noticed quite a few slowdowns and stutters which wasn't there before and yes I factory reset and cleared the cache when I first installed.

Sad to hear that. My experience with Oreo has been nothing but positive. Phone is smoother and faster and battery life improved in idle and in use.
Mind you I'm using a stock-based ROM called DevBase from xda with the latest kernel (3.18.91) and the phone is now running the latest bootloader ERG7 and modem ERG2.
What kernel version is listed in your software information under about phone?

Other SmartphonesSo it seems that after years that samsung is in the top smartphones makers they are not able to make a decent firmware and a still powerful device HAS TO at least or battery drain or lag in the most simple tasks. Well done samsung, as always. I'm still wondering how they replied to the report I sent where I mentioned planned obsolescence but my members app still keeps force closing 😂

Other SmartphonesBattery seems to have improved a little bit with the latest update for me, also the cell standby thing is gone.
However battery life for me was satisfying before and still is after the update, so no problems there.

Other SmartphonesIt is may be a good idea to watch the real batterylife instead of looking in the statistics. I wonder if they are so smart to just modify the statistics to calm down the users as Samsung allready stated that this is an issue of ststistics only.
Hehe.

Other SmartphonesThey're right about statistics; sometimes the accumulated % is 200

Battery does last longer for me after the update, but since I'm away from home it could just be that the signal is slightly better. Still, if I reach 4 hours SOT, can't complain.
Just to be clear I also deactivated 4G calls (VOLTE) through my carrier's app (noticed a big improvement at the time), and disabled most of the bloatwares with a well known app.

Percentage resets to 0% only if you charge your phone to 100%, so a 200% accumulated percentage is nothing strange

Other SmartphonesHow is everyone getting on with the new update? I've been running it since Friday. I am downgrading back to Nougat. For me battery life is worse and the occasional stutters are becoming annoying.

Other SmartphonesExactly the same- 20% cell standby. Zero improvement after the update.

Other SmartphonesSo now it's quite obvious - Samsung did it on purpose, they've intentionally decided to shut down S7 devices...
