Bluetooth issues on s7 edge after oreo installation

My s7 edge updated to the new oreo release on 24th June.   Since then I have noticed two issues with my Bluetooth headset, which I wear during the working day.

1.  The battery on the headset now drains in around six hours rather than about five days.

2. The button on the headset no longer cancels alarms, controls iPlayer etc.

A Samsung call centre insists that it is simply not possible that anything can be amiss with the new OS, it must be a fault with the headset.   Buit it still works normally on my old s4.  It took 20 minutes before I wrung out of them the existence of this forum.

What have they got to be so defensive about?   Surely Samsun software engineers are hungry for problem reports so they can perfect their work?

It's about an A5 2017 (and what appears to be non-Bluetooth headphones), but the OP of this thread experienced something similar to you after an update as regards the button. Not sure what steps you've alread tried, or if what worked for them will work for you though.

My problem isn't with media, is basic use of the phone with a bluetooth headset I use for making calls.   Something in the oreo release is causing the battery on the Bluetooth device to drain about six times as fast as normal.   Plus when the device is in operation, using the button to close a call or dismiss an alarm switches on the last media app I have used - typically I listen to early morning radio on ordinary earphones early in the morning, so I can find that terminating a work call between 10 and 11 brings on Woman's Hour.

Update:

I switched off the Bluetooth audio profile on the S7 Edge, and so far as battery life is concerned everything is back to normal - except that I can't hear or cancel alarms from the headset (this matters because I have to take transplant medication at set times).

So obviously the audio profile is holding the Bluetooth connection open permanently when audio is enabled.  This is either a deliberate change, an unintended consequence, or something that is fixable.   Beats me why Samsung finds it so challenging
