I accepted an update to my phone yesterday, and now when I edit any photos, the original disappears. It's not even in the trash. It's just gone. It never did this before. Indeed, I could edit a photo or crop it etc... a hundred times and save it and it would never eliminate the previous version of the photo. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be reset??

It's not a "Gallery" issue, it's the "Photo Editor" app. I don't know when it changed but it really sucks. I tried to uninstall all updates to the Photo Editor hoping to fix this issue, but it simply tells you now that "saving" replaces the original and to use the "save copy" feature if you don't want to change the original. I wish they'd change is back as I hate having to take that extra step and sometimes I forget to do it. Then I have to "revert" to the original and start over.

I have no idea how this works, but when I cropped a photo I downloaded from messenger, the original photo in messerger got cropped too! If the copy of the cropped photo doesn't get saved, how am I even going to download original again? That's insanely stupid. Updates are supposed to make software work better, not worse.

Can we uninstall the update and recover the old image editing/saving functions?

No, it doesn't appear so. I've tried that and the original Photo Editor program is not the default / uninstall all updates one any longer. But at least when I uninstalled all updates and ran the app I got the warning message again that it would replace the original file and if I didn't want that to happen to use the "save as" feature. So annoying. Would love to have this "improvement" replaced in the future and brought back to how it originally was.

I'm grateful that a workaround has been provided for this ridiculous update, but that is all it is.....a workaround, and not a solution!!!
This isn't a new feature that adds simplicity to the application and is nothing but a complete fault that adds extra steps to the end user experience.... The developer(s) should address the problem immediately given the amount of people querying it.

I don't agree with that premise! It should be up to the individual user as to delete any excess photos cluttering up their own personal storage and or gallery!
