Here at the Community, we’re huge fans of the Galaxy Watch4. Not only can you use it to track a ridiculous number of different activities (ninety-seven last time we checked), but it’s also compatible with loads of Google apps. You can even get Google Maps on it, so you’ll never get lost again! (Disclaimer: you might still get lost).
And now, Google Assistant, one of Google’s most popular apps, is also available on the Galaxy Watch4! Google Assistant is a voice assistant that you can use for all sorts of handy things. Get a weather forecast or tips on where to have dinner, set a reminder, play music, ask questions… all by speaking into your Watch4!

How to set up Google Assistant
Before you can use Google Assistant, you’ll need to download or update the app on your watch. Your watch should automatically install an update for Google Assistant, but if you can’t find it, you can download it from the Play Store. You’ll also need to make sure your watch is running the latest software. You can do this by opening the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone and heading to Watch settings > Watch software update > Download and install.
Now, to set up Google Assistant:
- Open the app drawer on you watch
- Tap on Google Assistant
- Tap Get started and follow the instructions on the screen
- Once you’re done there, you’ll be prompted to finish the process on the phone your watch is paired with
Now that you’ve got everything set up, you’ve got two amazing choices of virtual assistant: Google Assistant or Bixby. To bring up one or the other, all you need to do is say “Hey Google” or “Hi Bixby”. You can also set an assistant to bring up when you press and hold the home/power button. If you’re using Bixby but want to switch to Google Assistant, simply:
- Open the app drawer on your watch and tap Settings
- Scroll down, tap Advanced features, then select Customise keys
- Here you can select the voice assistant you want to use under Press and hold
