whatsapp releasd an emergency patch on Friday for the messaging app on ios and  Mac.  This addressed a sophisticated spyware campaign, hackers exploited vulnerabities using a Zero click attack.  This only  effected a  small  number of users but  had to be taken seriously.

whilst Android users were notr the target of this campaign  whatsapp vulnerabilities can still be exploited.  Ensure you have the most up to date version of the app and the latest security patch.

Samsung actually has a protection system for the exact vulnerability whatsapp had. Nice to know it's working in the background.

The bad part of the exploit was with the iPhone itself, WhatsApp was just used to trigger it. There was a bug in how iPhones display images, sending a specific image over whatsapp makes the phone try to view it, partially crash and run malware within the image.C58TINRcx5.png

Personally when using WhatsApp if I ever get a message from someone I don't know it goes straight in the bin.

I've received the odd odd spam messages. Admittedly they're not very often. Maybe only 1 or 2.

If you go to the whatsapp privacy settings Block unknown account Messages, unknown Numbers will be blocked when they exceed High Volume.   unfortunately  not all messages will be Blocked.  in privacy check up can Block specific unwanted contacts.  can silence unknown phone calls in the same section.

I  have received the odd spam one myself.
