Smart Switch is dumb because it doesn't move app data.

Just used 'smart switch' to move from a samsung s20 to a s22. Why doesn't is actually transfer ALL the app data and everything? All it's done is download all the apps and email accounts (without passwords), which is 10% of the job. Now I have to go into every app and sign in and then add all credit card to wallets, passwords to emails, set up the launcher again just how I like it.

I don't even understand why this can't be done? It can't be because of a security issue, because if I have my original phone which I have signed in with a pin or fingerprint I'm copying data from a phone which I have I have access to, so I'm not getting anything that I couldn't already get on the original phone.

Now I have to do everything all again, and in another year I'll have to do it again when I upgrade. How can I move ALL the app data and preferences, not just a new copy of the apps?

@Ben239847578234: Smart Switch is a great way to keep the core settings and layout of your previous Galaxy device intact on your new phone, so it feels instantly familiar. As you have discovered, you will be required to re-download third party applications, and sign back in to any account based apps for security purposes, so it isn't completely seamless.  Signing into an account on a new device is to be expected, and is a requirement in some instances for verification purposes. I understand that you would prefer the transfer to be a one-and-done process, and apologise for any disappointment this has caused you.

there isn't a way, if there was it'd be a security issue. As far as I'm aware not even 🍎 do this or other big tech companies.

Hi

Forget app data. I never recover apps.

Always install apps fresh as and when I need them.

Never have any issues with my phone.

Can you explain how it would be a security issue if you have the original phone and access with a pin, or other sign in method? You've literally got access to the data any-way, so how can it possibly be a security issue?

I'm not sure, I just know this question has been asked multiple times and that's the answer given.

I suppose thinking about it just because you have access to the phone doesn't mean you actually know the passwords for each app or email account. Shame there isn't a way to be able to go into the most important apps like email, banking, authenticator and verify with a fingerprint on the original phone and then be able to transfer over. Would save a load of hassle.

Totally agree with you on that. Although I think all the other companies would have to be on board with it for Samsung to integrate it.
Maybe add it to the feedback section of the members app?😊
