Missing photos

I have had multiple samsung phones and always transfered to the next. However there a random dates of photos missing. Not hugely problematic as all is backed up to various places but I just wanted to know how Google photos, amazon photos, one drive and the like, select what to store and what not to. Between Google photos and amazon photos some have stored X and other has store XX (if that makes sense)

Too many places can get confusing too

What I did was consolidate all on my laptop and then use that as the source of truth. I then uploaded to both Amazon and my Nas drive

Then set the apps to back up new photos, that way I have two complete copies and no confusion as to where some photo are store in one location and other in another
