Recently I became aware of a setting in Instagram to get better quality photos and videos uploaded.

You often here that some say iPhones upload to Instagram with a better image or video than Android phones. 

Well there's a reason for that.
For whatever reason Meta has, they choosen by default to compress photos and videos from Android devices.
But you can change this setting. 

Firstly go into your profile and then into settings.

Then go into Account

Next tap on Mobile Data Use

Then you will see under Media Upload Quality. 
As you can see it is off by Default.

Once turned on, you should see less compression in your content you upload

But those on Data limited contracts, you may see the content uploaded using more of your Data allowance. But WiFi will be your friend there.

That's strange.
It's on even my older devices.
Its definitely the Instagram app you have and not a third party version?
