How to re-enable tab switching/disable grid view

Hi all. I have multiple tabs open on my Samsung S9 at any given time. Usually I can simply swipe through the tabs to locate a tab I'm looking for. However, in recent days, the tab switcher keeps reverting to the grid view option. I've disabled this in the chrome/flags options and it does temporarily revert back to the traditional tab switcher I'm used to until I close chrome, at which time it reverts back to the grid view option. Is there a workaround so that I can avoid this? It's a real nuisance to have to go into the flags options to do this every time I launch Chrome.
Is there a workaround? I want to permanently disable the grid view.
Many thanks.

@Craigmc Hello, try this: press and hold the Chrome app icon, you will see the i button, click on it. In the three points on the top right, apply Uninstall updates. This will restore the app to default values. Update the app later and check. Greetings.
