I have an S22. I don't know what app I'm currently using to open pdf files. When I open them, they just open up (it doesn't ask which app I want to use). When I go to default apps in Settings, there is no pdf viewer option.

At some point in the past, you have tried to open a PDF and a list of options came up. You'll have selected something like Open Always and your device is now opening up all pdfs using the same app.

@SE2024: You can change the default app you use to open .PDF files by heading to Settings > Apps > Tap the 3 dots in the top right . Reset app preferences. Now, tap the Home button >  Swipe up from your Home screen > Samsung folder > My Files > Documents > Press and hold on a .PDF document > Tap the 3 dots in the bottom right > Open with > Select an app (I recommend Samsung Notes > PDF reader) > Always.

Alternatively, simply open Samsung Notes > Tap the +PDF button towards the top right of the screen, and choose from the available storage locations. This might be the preferable approach, as resetting your app preferences will remove any personal changes you have made to all apps on the device.

Thank you. I just wish I knew what app I chose when I selected Open Always. :winking-face:

I am assuming you are using One UI Launcher (I am using a Nova launcher as default). Use the following steps to know which default app it set for the PDF files.

  1. Open any PDF file
  2. The default app will Open the PDF file
  3. Tap on the Bottom Left button on the navigation bar (displayed as three vertical lines "III").
  4. You will see most recent three apps running on you phone where you can browse other running apps two using swipe action on the phone.
  5. Use the Slide/Swipe action (Using left/right swipe action) to display the app that has opened the PDF file (IMPORTANT: don't Tap/Click)
  6. Tap On the top center icon of the app that is displaying the PDF file, you will get a popup list.
  7. Tap on the "App Info" item on the list
  8. Now try to open a PDF file.
  9. It will display a list of apps.
  10. Now select one of the apps and click on "Just Once" or "Always". (If you choose "Always", it will remember the chosen app to open the PDF files for now on.
  11. You will see the App info screen that will show which app it is.
  12. Now Tap on "Set as default" item. (Below it there will be text in blue that says "In this app")
  13. Now Tap on "Open supported links" (to turn it Grey) and also tap on "Clear defaults"
  14. Now Try to open a PDF file.
  15. It will show a list of apps that can Open the PDF file.
  16. Tap an app you want to open the file with and select "Just once" or "Always" as per your liking.

If you follow this steps your other default app selections will remain intact compared to the other solution provided by "AndrewL" the moderator.
