how long have you been having this issue and what device are you using? Do the same thing happens if you try to access the email from the device browser or any other device?
@oldgreyone: Have you tried signing in on another device, or via a browser app (Samsung Internet or Chrome) to see if the issue persists? If it does, then AOL are likely to be experiencing a problem at the server side, so I recommend checking back periodically, or using another compatible app such as Gmail or the Samsung Email app to see if you can access your emails in this manner.
