Home AppliancesWhat does the water hardness setting do on the Samsung Series5 washing machines because they have not got a water softness unit in them or have a place to add salt - do they just adjust soap liquid and fabric softener dosages in the was do they?

Home Appliancesthanks, so if you live in a hard water area (lots of limescale) you go into settings menu and select 'Hard' for the hardness setting then? just want to clear that up - because machine also has a 1x 2x 3x setting as well as the hardness setting along with it in the setup menu - so 2 different things presumably?

Thanks for that - but then in the menu of the machine there is a setting for detergent 'low/med/high' for the autodose , so that uses more detergent if you set it to high? - disregarding setting the 'hard water' setting.
Its pretty confusing.

The low/med/high option on the options menu is for the soil level. For new items or things that need freshening up choose with the low dosage, but if it's a heavily soiled load of laundry, choose the high dosage. The normal setting is the best for most wash loads.
This is interesting, have to get my head around this. I thought 'quick wash' was suitable just for lightly soiled or that just need freshening up, and for heavy soiled use the 'Bubble Soak' or 'Intense' or normal longer wash cycle.
So are you saying that depending on wash load you have to go in that special menu before every wash and select Low/Med or High detergent setting every time depending on the wash load and how heavily soiled it is? - that cannot be right, its not even in a easy to get to menu part of the machine. Its more like in an initial setup screen and setup and forget.

The low/med/high setting on the option menu (the same menu where you can select 'Intensive or 'Bubble Soak') is where you can choose the soil level (low medium or high). This setting is different to the water hardness setting. Low for lightly soiled items, medium for normally soiled items, and high for heavily soiled items.
ah right thank you for your reply - so in every day use the user is supposed to choose low/med/high for each wash cycle before every wash? is that what you mean? - seems fiddly! - I though the sensors in the machine and the programme/ cycle you set the dial to detects the soiling of the clothes and adjusts the time / wash according to the soiling?
so , if you have heavily soiled clothes not only do you have to choose intense or bubble soak then along with those settings you still have to select the 'dose per wash' low medium or high for every wash? is that what you mean?
Samsung say in their adverts "take the guesswork out of how much detergent to use, Autodose will choose the correct dose in every wash" - well if your saying you have to select low/med or high for every wash then it does not select the right dose for you then!
thanks.
