Washing machine WW90T684DLH - ' Refill detergent' message not showing when compartment is empty

3 month old washing machine using auto-dispenser function. The 'refill conditioner' message was displayed so I filled it up. I then checked the detergent container and it was empty but I did not get the 'refill detergent' message display. I did another two washes to ensure any remaining detergent in the system was used but still no message. Is there a fault that I can fix or do I need to get the engineer? Thanks

Just had an informative engineer visit from Trio Domestic Appliances.  The detergent level sensor is the two metal pins at the back of the compartment.  The sensors (detergent & softener) are integral to the pump so he replaced the pump unit  which took ~ 20 mins. There is no separate reservoir  in the depths of the machine so the sensor should trigger when the detergent level is below the two pins.  The drawer is on a slight slope so there will still be enough detergent (maybe 2 or 3  washes worth) covering the pins even when the drawer appears empty if you look down through the fill hole at the front. So in summary I had a fault but did not get an error code because the fault was likely the sensor itself. Hopefully all good now.

Thanks for the update.

Do you know why the 'Refill' message did eventually appear after you had run on empty for a few washes?

Are there meant to be two different messages for each compartment - a 'Low' and a 'Refill'?

Did you get the 'Clean Filter' issue sorted too?

Re your questions -

1. Engineer diagnosed faulty  detergent sensor but not sure if it was intermittent or fully failed to give the 'Refill detergent' message eventually.

2. The message is 'Refill detergent' or ' Refill softener'

3. The 'Clear filter' went away after 2 cycles after cleaning twice and powering off/on. Not sure why and engineer did not  have a specific comment.

Thanks for the information.

Let me know if that has now resolved your issue. Given that everything else works as expected on mine, I don't think I will bother calling the engineer for a pump replacement just to see a Refill/Low message for the detergent. I will just get in the habit of checking it when the Softener message appears.

So after the detergent got to a level whereby it was no longer dispensing to the wash, I decided to add the detergent manually but leave Autodose on.

For two washes there was a squelching type of sound when the 'Adding Detergent' message appeared, which presumably was the Autodose pulling through mainly air.

When I turned the machine on for the next wash, the 'Detergent Low' message appeared for the first time!

I turned the machine off and filled the compartment to the max level. When I turned the machine back on, the message was still there.

Assuming there are sensors in the drawer, I don't think they are 'always on', because I'd previously noticed with the Softener that the action of opening & closing the drawer clears the message - regardless of whether you refill or not. So I think the sensors may only be active during the dispense action.

To be fair, it does state in the manual that the message may remain until it's time for the machine to dispense.

And with regard to my confusion over whether 'Low' or 'Refill' is displayed - it's actually both. For example, it says 'Softener Low' and then underneath that message in a smaller font, it says 'Refill Softener'. I had not been paying attention to the secondary message!

My WD21T6500GV/ST has the same problem and the same fixed from Samsung by replacing the water pump with sensors bundled.

Not sure Samsung really solve this problem because I quit to pay attention to refill detergent message function. I'll tell you why.

After trial and error, I found the detergent sensor would triggered whenever adding liquid detergent to drum. If the level of detergent lower than sensor electrode, the washing machine will show "Refill Detergent" message next time you power on.

As softener does the same way but sensor will be triggerd when rinse applied. Showing "Refill Softener" message when it runout.

These 2 messages warning independent with washing program. It just notification so you can wash without detergent and/or softener.

If you dismiss the messages and no wash (for trigger detergent sensor) or no rinse (for trigger softener sensor), you'll not get the messages again.

This is unwise algorithm. Easily to confuse user and make imply to judge washing machine work abnormally. More recommend to trigger both sensors when power on.

For my case, only got many "Refill Softener" but none of "Refill Detergent", I think the cause is detergent has more viscosity than softener. When detergent runout, there is still some residue remain on electrode and provide a circuit between pin + and pin - so never warning from detergent level.

Sometime the sensor become a suspect which probably not.

I have the same problem. After going through the troubleshooting procedures with Samsung they sent an engineer. They changed 2 parts. It still does exactly the same thing. I contacted Samsung support again and they wanted me to go through the troubleshooting procedures again. I've basically given up at this point. Looking at this thread it seems it's a feature that just doesn't work properly. Annoying but I just fill it up every week.

We had exactly the same issue as you did, engineer came, replaced to two parts, made no difference

We had various part changed a couple of months ago. At the same time we have changed to Method detergent and conditioner. It's of a much thinner consistency. I waited a while to post this as wanted to see how things went. I'm happy to report everything is working normally now. Method is slightly more expensive than other brands. It is plant based also which may make a difference.
