Whatsapp Notifications Blocked

Ive got a really weird issue that has just started, i can no longer get notifications from WhatsApp. When i go to notification settings, whatsapp is listed as a System App and when selected is says "all notifications from this app are blocked" and the option to allow notifications is greyed out.

Ive tried unenrolling from the WhatsApp beta program and reinstallation 

But nothing helps

Any ideas?

Hi I have the very same thing. I do have to open whatsapp for the messages to load in. Very weird. Uninstalled en reinstalled but nothing helps.

I found a fix.

Had to force stop, clear cache, clear data, uninstall, reboot and then reinstall. Then it finally worked again

Genuine question - if you're going to uninstall and reinstall, surely clearing cache etc is moot?

Well the cache sits in a separate partition entirely and data is left behind with an uninstall often to preserve settings
