Galaxy Z Fold2 VERY poor battery life

I absolutely LOVE my Z Fold2, but I’m really concerned about the battery life. My phone will never last a full day, no matter how much or little I use it.

I’ve checked the inbuilt Battery usage app and it gives no real indication of abnormal battery drain. I’ve also installed a couple of different 3^rd party battery monitor apps (on different occasions!), and they also don’t show anything “alarming” as to what is draining the battery.

As an example, I charged my phone up to 100% today and, after taking it off charge, it had gone from 100% to 95% in 1 hour. I didn’t even touch the phone to use it! Now, 4 hours later, it is at 60% and I’ve used it for about 10 minutes.

Turning off WiFi and Bluetooth have no effect, and even though I put my phone into flight mode overnight (and it's therefore not communicating with anything?!), it still loses at least 10% overnight when it is effectively off!

What’s going on?! Am I the only one this is happening to?

It’s really causing me a lot of grief because when using the phone, I can literally watch the percentage drop!! I'm sure it must be something simple to fix or have I managed to get hold of a "rogue" unit?!

I’d appreciate any help or insight anyone can give me on this.

Here are some tips from me:

First tip, always keep dark mode on if thats fine with you, secondly, go to settings, then go to connections, go to more connection settings and turn off nearby device scanning because it uses a lot of battery in the background, and the third tip is to uninstall any apps that you don't use because the less apps there are, the less battery that will be wasted in the background. Before I changed all these settings on my s20 plus, the battery would last about 6.5 hours but now I have changed the settings, the battery gives me about 9 to 10 hours before it dies which is a huge improvement. Please use these tips and you will have a much longer lasting phone and battery. Hope this helps!

Hey Aparmar, thanks for your quick reply and useful tips, but unfortunately I have already done all of those! I switched to dark mode from day 1, I turned off nearby device scanning fairly recently which did make a BIG difference, and finally I've uninstalled all my unused apps. Turning off the "nearby device scanning" had the most effect, but the battery still drains ridiculously fast. I can literally watch the battery percentage count down as I use the phone!

Maybe this is the normal battery performance of the Z Fold2? But I'm hoping it's not! It really is ridiculous how quickly my battery discharges. I completely accept that the main screen is a big screen and would use a lot of battery power, but I've not even opened the phone today and the battery is draining like mad!

Thanks again for your useful tips, and I hope someone else reads the "nearby device scanning" tip, because that really is one to take notice of and turn off!

I think the main issue is the Exynos chip which we have in the UK drains the battery a lot faster but the Snapdragon chip in the US provides longer battery life.

they should do "free battery replacement" just in a year for Exynos version haha it is not fair

@APARMAR oh, I didn't know the UK version used a different chip?! That's not on if it's worse than everywhere else in the world?!!!  😳

it isnt the exynos per se. i get 12 hours plus on my s21 ultra and im only.on my 4th cycle of the battery. maybe android 11 itself, or samsungs new overlay. also, have you seen what googlemaps is doing? ive turned background data off and quarantined the app. turned background data off on alot of apps that wont need it when its not running.

I agree, they should not be giving us an inferior chip as that is totally unfair to us.

I know, Samsung have always done this and the Exynos has always performed worse but with the S21, the exynos is almost better than the snapdragon so its good to see that they care about our opinions.
