Why does samsung pay more for the galaxy s20 plus than the galaxy s20 ultra when you trade them in for an upgrade

Yes I accidentally purchased a new phone in a rush thinking the trade in was the upgrade... Stupid I know. Then I got the upgrade window and they want a deposit of £80 and also offer half the amount of money from a trade in. I will be cancelling my order and will not be upgrading
