Pictures and whole albums have disappeared from gallery how do I restore

Do you have google photos or anything like that installed?

Hi @DDBE  Are the photos definitely not in  My files?  If  missing firstly try the recycle Bin to see if they can be restored.  If not go to Settings-Apps- Gallery -Storage- Clear Cache. Restart device and see if that makes a difference.   However   can they not be accessed anywhere else such as One Drive,Google photos or an SD card /External storage? 

As a general point I would advise that Members have back up options.
