Photos dissappearing on my phone

There are about 20 -30 missing photos on my S9 that were there 2/3 weeks ago and its not there anymore,  I haven't deleted them , they are not backed up , I have checked literally everywhere I dont understand how this can happen I am so super upset

I have received a Samsung update to 8nstall and it says if my photos are not backed up that I may lose them and my data too

Go to gallery and check your recycle bin.

@Susieque That's correct, One Drive is replacing Samsung Cloud.

so does that mean if I don't back up all my photos they will all be lost? what about the ones just on my handset?
