Incoming Whatsapp messages overriding my active activities!!!

For months Whatsapp is bothering me so much. When someone sends me a tekst the notification takes over my full screen. Example I am playing a game or watching a video and when a msg comes in it overrides my current activity and showing whatsapp full screen. It feels so forced that I have to react or read. When playing a game and more messages come in the screen keeps flipping to whatsapp. When I turn notifications off it does not show I got a msg at all anymore . That either in settings or whatsapp notifications directly. But I still want to see the icon on top of my screen. Just that it stops overwriting my activity showing it full screen and interrupting what I am currenly doing. Anyone familiar with this and how can I stop this?

Long, but you can desactivate popup emergent notifications in Whatsapp to avoid that windows, also you can go to settings / applications / Whatsapp / Notifications and set as you like to have the notifications signals.
