I have both the Google and the Samsung calendar apps which give the same information.
I see that it is not possible to remove the Samsung calendar app as you would do for any other app.
Do I really need to root the phone to do it? Isn't there a simpler way?
Actually there is an app that works perfectly for samsung without root. Use package disabler pro for Samsung. Im currently using version 15.2 and it works on my s9 on 9.0 to disable any app on my phone including system apps.
Package disabler free: (http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=98312592863715617598)
Package disabler Google play 3$: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kinder.pksafety)
For Samsung s9: I've disable these packages without issue to prevent system updates
When i disabled Google play services i had a boot loop that caused me to need a factory reset ( i believe this was because: find my device and google pay are set as device admin when i did it...)
So always be very careful what you disable! and backup your data before changing any major system settings. ( if you disable the wrong program/package your phone could be stuck in a boot loop and need to be factory reset)

@Je655 thanks for the information but I don't trust your http-only link hosting something on a website well known for propagating virus and so on.
I've used Package Disabler Pro in the past, but Samsung (again) work on blocking it, and this requires the editor to repackage the app or something like this. I don't remember exactly the issue, but it was not a stable solution over the time. It was working great and then few month later not working anymore.
That's why I opted for using adb (which does not require the root access)
You dont trust my http link is fine, thats why i provided 1 free link and the Official link to the Google Play Store. Up to you how you would like to get the app. There is no "repackaging" it just disables the apps including system. And as for it not working you probably uninstalled the package disabler app, you must leave it installed on your phone to keep the apps disabled (still on android 9.0 by disabling software update). And adb is a great option for experienced users but some are unable to use adb and package disabler is very user friendly and it also does not require root access.
No root needed. Easy on your phone no computer method, Use package disabler pro for Samsung. Im currently using version 15.2 and it works on my s9 on 9.0 to disable any app on my phone including system apps.

With both adb and this apk Be careful what you disable it can cause issues if you disable the wrong package/app
Look I get Samsung thinks they are so clever with their pen and you can write on their apps, GREAT.. then make apps that let you configure them like I just want to have a calendar that actually connects to the calendar I use on the gazillion other devices I have using Office 365.. I'm not poor I don't use free Microsoft and Gmail accounts that your apps keeps driving me toward- samsung cloud will only use that stupid residential microsoft account and won't use my business one.. I paid nearly a grand for this stupid tablet and I can't just configure it to use the things I use without having to go in a hack the device.. it's such a waste of time and I'll probably break stuff.. but I'm not going to just let my stupidly expensive device have a calendar that anytime I ad an event to it goes to someone stupid free calendar who knows where... get a clue samsung.
