I have a new phone Samsung Galaxy S9 plus bought in Germany. I have not open it yet, because there is a label where it is written European sim card only. My sim card is Macedonian, country that is not part of the Europian Union. So my question is will the phone work with my sim card? If not how can I fix this? Thanks

You may find that the phone is region locked.

This is to stop grey imports.

The only way to remove a region lock is to use a local sim card in that country in the phone and make x4 five minute calls.

This has to be done in the country of purchase using a local sim card.

Samsung cannot remove a region lock via other ways.

Current Phone ~

Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G SM-N9860_256Gb SnapDragon 865+

Samsung One Ui 3.1/ Android 11.

Phones supplied by Samsung are unlocked to all networks out of the box so any network sim card will work in them.

Just ensure you make at least up to 10 minutes of calls with you local sim card in your country to remove the region lock.

The issue that sometimes occurs us a person imports a phone from another country and a call hasn't been made on it so the region lock isn't removed.

Receiving call for duration of 10 minutes is also a solution? or have to originate call from the phone?

Since I bought my European S9+, I had already used it with my local SIM card for months with hours of call time, until I went to Asia and tried to use an Asian SIM card - however it did not work all.

Later I travelled to USA, same there.

I have not been able to get my 'globally working GSM phone' to operate with SIM cards from other areas at all.

I have to take my S6 with me and use the other SIM card there, which makes me wonder why do I have a dual SIM tray on the S9+ again?

I think you need to have used both SIM slots for 5 mins in the country of origin - I have a Samsung A40 with Dual SIM and have put my UK sim (In the UK) to recieve and make calls totalling 5 mins.  It seemed to work.  Note your dual SIM phone has a different IMEI number for each slot essentially making it two different phones.

If you're already abroad try putting the foreign SIM in Slot 1 (or whichever slot you had your original SIM) it might be OK then.
