I really wish I could turn back time and undo the frickin' damage I have done to my £800 S9+
I implore people to wait - as the One UI/Pie update I downloaded and installed last night is horrendous!!!
Issues noticed within 12 hours of the update.
Whole uni UI design is like it was created by kids, i think anybody can do better design, it is simply ugly, dark/black mode helps just little. I just bought few days back A40 instead of my J3 2016 which has now problems with latest updates of apps and i am pretty dissapointed. Icons are really ugly and big, icons could be changed hopefully so that have solution but what is worse is wasting of space everywhere across all apps. Notification bar is covering whole screen because on top are big unused area and between icons is big space as well (it is very ugly and not effective), whole notification field could be done in max 4 lines even 3 i think. Gallery app same case on top big white area wasting space which looks ugly and it does not show more content compared to my 5 inch display on J3 2016. Notepad design is simply so ugly design, i hate it (i was using notepad pretty often) .Settings menu same case. If i have a look on my J3 2016 with lollipop it is becautiful compared to this new "modern" look also more space efficient and comfortable to control. In A40 because there is big display 5.9 they dont use it but waste space. Keyboard same case, takes more space and it is wasting of space. All Touchwiz interfaces are way more effective and more pretty compared to One Ui Design. Please fix it Samsung, i used to like samsung phones due to interface a lot but now it is the opposite. Dear SAMSUNG please take for example any old SAMSUNG Touchwiz phone (J3 2016, ....) and make new phones to use display areas effective like you used to do. AND make another model like A40c (compact) with same specification as A40 with edge to edge screen but just 5 inch display please, more than 5 inch is not comfortable to control by one hand. Thanks a lot.
I accidentally updated to One UI a few months ago (I have a Samsung S8).
It has certainty been a bit frustrating in places, but I have gotten used to it.
I have kinda just coped with missing features such as scheduled text messages, and other features i can't remember to be honest.
For small thinks like the navigation bar icons can be easly fixed With NavStar, which can be installed via 'Good Lock' - found on the 'Galaxy Store'
Its annoying that inorder to avoid getting updated to a new OS version, you have to give up updating altogether. An opt-in system would have been nice.
The good thing is, the next version of android will have modular updates.
Wether all will get the update, I don't know.
I'm not sure what else to say...
I own a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus , purchased January 2019 , from new. After reading the comments/ reviews on the Android Pie / One UI " upgrade " ..... I am so pleased that I had the intuition as to NOT upgrade to it , after dozens of upgrade reminders , over the last 13 months !
Incidentally, I never upgraded my Windows on my PC , from 8.1 , either , due to many bad reviewers experiences !
Thank you for your very useful comments , I hope that you find peace and happiness in the next handset which you purchase - I think that it's disgraceful that you can't revert back to an old Android version too - how controlling and unthoughtful !
I am wondering what the best resolution for those who have upgraded to , what sounds like the disaster zone , known as Android Pie / One UI !
Actually, you SHOULD upgrade your pc, they have a lot less garbage going on with windows 10 after 4 years of tweaking. Just disable windows defender and then look through things as you go. Considering how quickly they cut support to windows 7, the next on the list is 8/8.1. The best solution to the disaster zone was a new ui launcher, and looking up the specific problems I had till a solution was found (some there were none). Since you're a lot later to the update, you won't have anywhere near as many bugs or issues to deal with. It will still be weird, but there are ways to deal with it. Comparing current to older on phone, I would very much prefer to go back, but you get used to it whether you like it or not. As for PC, it's a mixed bag where it's dangerous to, and dangerous not to, upgrade. But it's likely a lot less safe to not. For me I find a happy balance of waiting a week after updates for the immediate rush of bugs unless it's an immediate level threat in which case I look around and go "huh, this might suck worse than a bug..." SO, advising, upgrade pc, maybe check out some of the free launchers on google play and see if one floats your boat, cause you can still use those after upgrading*. Some permanent changes
-you cannot have a theme with night mode active
-music is no longer blue but a stupid blinding white outside of night mode (black using night mode makes it black/grey, but this doesn't happen with a theme)
-the app icons look like they were designed for a child's tablet.
-bixby is no longer able to be 100% disabled
-they screwed up the camera and color settings (still not fixed, only natural focus has the correct lighting and it's always zoomed in 2-3x with absolutely no zooming options)
tl;dr upgrade pc, look at your options with phone.
