Don't Update to One UI/Pie!!!!!

I really wish I could turn back time and undo the frickin' damage I have done to my £800 S9+

I implore people to wait - as the One UI/Pie update I downloaded and installed last night is horrendous!!!

Issues noticed within 12 hours of the update.

  1. The awesome little navigation bar that used to autohide, but appear when you swipe - has been taken away completely!  Now you either have some incredibly ugly icons, or horrible grey lines at the bottom.  Urg!  So I turned the icons off, and now it's a total guessing game for where I'm swiping and for what.  Because the pop up menu has been 'upgraded' and now doesn't pop up anymore - at all.  So - lose precious screen estate or gain it all but swipe randomly and hope for the best.  Ridiculous.
  2. Bixby - that evil data whore of an app - what a piece of *****.  The button is on the wrong side of the phone for most users, and every time you want to take a picture or watch TV - you inexplicably end up pressing the stupid frickin Bixby button.  Thanks Bixby - for interrupting my viewing when I simply want to turn the volume down.  Thanks Bixby - for getting in the way when trying to capture precious moments using the otherwise amazing camera....and losing the moment because I accidentally squeezed you for more than a microsecond - call that a long press???   Before this One UI update, users were forced to sign up for samsung account they don't want or need, to be able to simply disable that stupid button.  Until they long pressed it.  Or accidentally swiped too far left on their screens.  I hate Bixby - and to make it permanently switched on in the new update is just a kick in the teeth.  If users could remap the button, or better still turn it off completely, I'm wondering how many will!

  3. The updated has totally screwed up the menus and keyboard.  I bought the S9+ for the huge screen and ability to see lots of information on one screen.  Well thanks Samsung - your new update put that awesome quality in the bin.  Now you get over a 3rd of each screen taken up with a huge empty box with huge letters saying Settings Is this really necessary!!!!?
  4. Samsung has screwed up the multiwindow function.  Completely - broken.  You used to be able to swipe from the corners and sides to resize almost anything you were looking at or using.  I used to have 3 or 4 at a time.  Loved it.  Now broken.  There is a workaround - but you have to use the new (and awful) task manager.

  5. The new task manager/recent apps.  Now it's not just more difficult to actually find the button without a huge hideous icon, grey line, or no menu at all, when you do get it, it very unhelpfully fills the whole screen with a preview of the app - you were *last* looking at.  Try it (those who've been afflicted by this crappy update) - see how annoyingly it spins to the app you last used.  Not the one you were just on.  Before the update - the last app you looked at was on top, and you could easily and smoothly flip through all the others like a deck of playing cards.  Not any more.  Broken.  Oh - and if you want multiscreen - you have to click the icon on the app in the preview.  BUT GUESS WHAT!  ***IT'S****BROKEN****  Yes indeed - click on split screen and your app gets shoved to the top of the screen.  Can't see it - can't use it - can't close it - no matter how many times you click on the unhelpful X button.  So let's try multiscreen.  Nope - let's try Pop Up.  Ahh - finally - now we get a screen we can move about - but wait - it limits the size to a box way too large and square.  Before the update - it was a nice small rectangle - perfect for watching TV and playing chess.  Can't do both anymore.  Can't multitask anymore.  Thanks Samsung.

  6. Did I mention how ***** Bixby is?

  7. Yes - there's more - Samsung have ruined the keyboard layout - now there's a huge gap underneath - total
    waste of screen space.Screenshot_20190207-113840_Chrome.jpg

  8. How about how they've screwed with the layout and settings of their previously fabulous camara app?  No longer are we treated to a lovely, simply intuatively named list of resolutions - now we have to mess about pressing extra buttons to get past all this tripe about aspect ratios.  Before - even the newest user to smartphones could see the best quality - is at the top - end of - no question - now they have to delve into multiple confusing submenus to get the best options.  Assuming they ever look again - used to be easy to get to.

  9. Hate what they've done with the way you choose photo formats - I use Pro 80% of the time - and now the menu keeps skipping past it because it's in the wrong place, and the wrong size font, with the wrong amount of spacing between the words.  ROLL BACK THE CHANGES!!!!
  10. I know - I'm bored writing this now - but I've also spent £800/$1,000 on a mobile phone less than a year ago - and now it's broken.  So on with the complaints.  Widgets are completely broken.  Screenshot_20190207-113920_Samsung Experience Home.jpg

Can't add them, move them or delete them. See the white line around the app?  Can't move it to a new screen.  Can't resize it.  Can't delete it.  BROKEN!!!

  11. What else was there....ummm - yeah - I like the night mode.

plus I hate how they force you to use the new crappy udpates and don't just allow you to use the version that was great to continuously work forever on devices without making it mandatory and forcing everyone to switch over to *****ty updates that they hate. These professionals also need to stop this ***** too. I should have the right to stick with Android 8.1 forever if like unless a new version has all the same features and functions available like the old one has had all along leaves the themes and multitasking view alone as well especially my tablet is a Samsung 8.1 tablet so I shouldn't be forced to use other newer version on it if I don't want them. If i wanted the *****ty Android 9.0 I would get an Android 9.0 tablet and they need to really really cut it out

Whole uni UI design is like it was created by kids, i think anybody can do better design, it is simply ugly, dark/black mode helps just little. I just bought few days back A40 instead of my J3 2016 which has now problems with latest updates of apps and i am pretty dissapointed. Icons are really ugly and big, icons could be changed hopefully so that have solution but what is worse is wasting of space everywhere across all apps. Notification bar is covering whole screen because on top are big unused area and between icons is big space as well (it is very ugly and not effective), whole notification field could be done in max 4 lines even 3 i think. Gallery app same case on top big white area  wasting space which looks ugly and it does not show more content compared to my 5 inch display on J3 2016. Notepad design is simply so ugly design, i hate it (i was using notepad pretty often) .Settings menu same case. If i have a look on my J3 2016 with lollipop it is becautiful compared to this new "modern" look also more space efficient and comfortable to control. In A40 because there is big display 5.9 they dont use it but waste space. Keyboard same case, takes more space and it is wasting of space. All Touchwiz interfaces are way more effective and more pretty compared to One Ui Design. Please fix it Samsung, i used to like samsung phones due to interface a lot but now it is the opposite. Dear SAMSUNG please take for example any old SAMSUNG Touchwiz phone (J3 2016, ....) and make new phones to use display areas effective like you used to do. AND make another model like A40c (compact) with same specification as A40 with edge to edge screen but just 5 inch display please, more than 5 inch is not comfortable to control by one hand. Thanks a lot.

nobody is forcing to update. I have a tablet and a mobile with Android 8, there is an update notification from months, just ignore it. don't update if you don't want to.

Hi all,

I accidentally updated to One UI a few months ago (I have a Samsung S8).

It has certainty been a bit frustrating in places, but I have gotten used to it.

I have kinda just coped with missing features such as scheduled text messages, and other features i can't remember to be honest.

For small thinks like the navigation bar icons can be easly fixed With NavStar, which can be installed via 'Good Lock' - found on the 'Galaxy Store'

Its annoying that inorder to avoid getting updated to a new OS version, you have to give up updating altogether. An opt-in system would have been nice.

The good thing is, the next version of android will have modular updates.

Wether all will get the update, I don't know.

I'm not sure what else to say...

I own a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus , purchased January 2019 , from new.  After reading the comments/ reviews on the Android Pie / One UI " upgrade " ..... I am so pleased that I had the intuition as to NOT upgrade to it , after dozens of upgrade reminders , over the last 13 months !

Incidentally,  I never upgraded my Windows on my PC , from 8.1 , either , due to many bad reviewers experiences !

Thank you for your very useful comments , I hope that you find peace and happiness in the next handset which you purchase - I think that it's disgraceful that you can't revert back to an old Android version too - how controlling and unthoughtful !

I am wondering what the best resolution for those who have upgraded to , what sounds like the disaster zone , known as  Android Pie / One UI !

Actually, you SHOULD upgrade your pc, they have a lot less garbage going on with windows 10 after 4 years of tweaking. Just disable windows defender and then look through things as you go. Considering how quickly they cut support to windows 7, the next on the list is 8/8.1. The best solution to the disaster zone was a new ui launcher, and looking up the specific problems I had till a solution was found (some there were none). Since you're a lot later to the update, you won't have anywhere near as many bugs or issues to deal with. It will still be weird, but there are ways to deal with it. Comparing current to older on phone, I would very much prefer to go back, but you get used to it whether you like it or not. As for PC, it's a mixed bag where it's dangerous to, and dangerous not to, upgrade. But it's likely a lot less safe to not. For me I find a happy balance of waiting a week after updates for the immediate rush of bugs unless it's an immediate level threat in which case I look around and go "huh, this might suck worse than a bug..."  SO, advising, upgrade pc, maybe check out some of the free launchers on google play and see if one floats your boat, cause you can still use those after upgrading*.  Some permanent changes

-you cannot have a theme with night mode active

-music is no longer blue but a stupid blinding white outside of night mode (black using night mode makes it black/grey, but this doesn't happen with a theme)

-the app icons look like they were designed for a child's tablet.

-bixby is no longer able to be 100% disabled

-they screwed up the camera and color settings (still not fixed, only natural focus has the correct lighting and it's always zoomed in 2-3x with absolutely no zooming options)

tl;dr   upgrade pc, look at your options with phone.
