Clear cache - common knowledge?

Whenever there's a problem we're told to clear the cache partition - phone off, volume up / power button depressed, and connected to a computer via USB cable, and release when 'Samsung' appears.

I recently tried that with a USB C to USB C connected to my wife's tablet, and that also did the trick.

I'll assume this is common knowledge and my post is unnecessary ...?

I'm from a Digital Forensic background, so done way too many phone examinations and using Android root.
It used to be that any USB accessory (like headphones) could be connected and it would work but from Android 13, for security reasons, it changed.
It now needs to be connected to a source that has power and data connectivity in order to trip the O/S into that mode. A tablet or even another handset doing a USB-C to C connection will work as it provides both requirements.

Long winded answer but yes it works. Common knowledge, maybe not

Hi @davehorne

It is common knowledge that the phone could be connected to a PC or another device, e.g. phone, tablet.  It has been said multiple times. However, your post is not unnecessary. People looking for support might not be familiar with the search functionality of the forum, so it is not bad to refresh the information. 😉

I usually do it when there is a security update available. My S23 received the June update yesterday, and I wiped the cache partition. Usually around once a month.

Will not necessarily solve all issues but is good maintenance after updates (particularly major  os ones), can also be beneficial with issues such as lags/freezes.  yes you can connect to another Samsung mobile Device or TV USB as well as computer.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

Any time I tried to do cache partition it only worked USB C to USB C and only plugged to another Samsung phone. I have tried USB C to Type A and varieties and plugged into computer or TV but for me it didn't work. Maybe I am not that skilled, idk.

At least, this is for S24 and S25 series.

Thanks for mentioning that it works from Tablet to phone.@davehorne
