1-day old s25 phone is overheating and the battery drains like no ones business. Can anyone help me understand what is wrong?

The phone is only a day old, why is it overheating when i do something as simple as whatsapp video calls with no background apps running.

Secondly how come battery drains so rapidly even on power save mode.

I am taking the phone back, there is no way i'm keeping such a faulty product!!!

By overheating, do you mean it is crashing or causing problems? The S25 has an impressive vapor chamber, which means the phone may feel hot, but this is because it is doing a good job at removing heat from the hardware.

If you've recently upgraded and used SmartThings, this has reportedly caused issues for a small number of users; just clear the phone's cache in the recovery menu, and it will be fine. Its also recommended not to use smart things to move over apps as that too caused issues

It is normal for the battery to perform poorly at first; it is in the calibration stage. Mine went from around 4–5 hours to 12–13 after 14 days of use.

It is highly likely there is a rogue or incompatible app causing some issues.

I would assume you used smartswitch to synchronise devices and typically if an app has been copied across versions of Android, this kind of behaviour can occur.

So the first question is whether you used smartswitch ? And secondly with synchronising the apps ?

One thing you could try is to go into both Google play and galaxy store, and check all apps for any updates.

Secondly you could backup your phone to Google or samsung backup, and then factory reset the phone and synchronise only the messages, calls, and phone numbers... whilst installing apps from the stores again.

I would try the stores first and if this does not help then take the evasive action. When jumping between major android versions... I.e. android 14 to 15 in this case... sometimes these issues can occur.

On another note, in the battery settings, what kind of screen on time are you experiencing, and from the list of apps usage, what app seems to be consuming your battery the most?

Typically if you use smartswitch from a device a few years old.
Transferring date can transfer damaged or corrupted data.

So doing a Wipe Partition Cashe is definitely recommended

Also your phone will be going through a battery conditioning cycle. So will be inconsistent during this period

Personally I'd try and few things before returning, as it's likely something you have installed that's causing the issue and nothing to do with the phone

My guess is it's just everything setting up and loading. The device is learning how things work, apps are making cache data and compiling. After 3 days if its still doing it, then something will be up. It won't be the device it'll be some app maxing it out

What I would recommend doing. is at the moment you can get 3 months free. Samsung care.
I'd recommend that you get that. Then take it into a samsung repair.

Thank you, the phone get's so hot that its uncomfortable to hold it. It doesn't just get warm but HOT. Do you mean this is normal?

I did move apps from my old phone using smart switch. It hasn't crashed yet because i just quit my whatsapp video calls, when it got too hot.

On another note, when i charge it also does the same. I use a Samsung original charger. S

Thanks, YES to both questions. In the case of smartswitch, then what is the point of having such apps to copy your data if in the end it will cause issues.

Whatsapp consumes the most battery life with nearly 5% in just 20 min. The overall screen ontime is 1hr 20min with 30% usage. This seems rather excessive, considering the fact I only use the phone for calls and whatsapp.

@boje1 Smartswitch has worked fine for many however for some the transfer can cause hiccups.

Personally I opt to use Samsung Cloud and then only Smartswitch for my Gallery.

Https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/ is a good troubleshooting tip.

If the phone is still within the Cooling Off Period then consider having it swapped out if troubleshooting does not resolve this issue.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎
