[BUG] Google timeline not working after using smart switch

Hello,

I am re-opening this since similar posts got a "solved" label. Their solutions do not work for me. Last week I upgraded from a Samsung S20 5G to a Samsung S25. The device proposed to use smart switch for easy transfer of all data. This worked perfectly, except for Google Maps. The timeline is not registering. Location is set to allow always, timeline has been toggled off and on. All rights are granted.

Other things I have tried:

- Removing Google account, clearing cache, rebooting and re-adding Google account

- Removing cache of all location related system services

- Removing updates from Google maps and clearing data & cache.

- Factory reset of the phone without using smart switch -> Google timeline started working until I used smart switch again to copy the remaining data, after which it stopped. No more locations have been registered since.

Goodmorning,

The solution is to not use Smartswitch.

Make your backup normally.

I did a factory reset again, and then activated my Google account. Toggled location history again and now it does not register. Still not fixed despite second factory reset and this time no Smart Switch. Maybe the issue lies in how the settings are linked to the google account?

This could point towards a wrong setting in your Google account. Have you contacted Google?

The details of this are in your Google account. Recently, however, Google has changed some of its settings. Do you still have all the data on your old device?

If you still have everything on it here, you will first have to make a backup to the cloud. 

You can do this by going to timeline (on your old device) and clicking on the cloud icon with the arrow.
