It's normal for any s23 series for battery to drain a little while using camera. It's all the proseccing power.

When you take photos, record videos, or make video calls, your phone needs to use both the camera and the screen, which are both power-intensive pieces of hardware. It would be the same with all battery capacity. When I take pictures with my my s23 ultra, I will see the battery go down a little quicker.

If you are going to be taking a lot of pictures on an outing. Then yes battery saving mode would be fine to toggle on. Or even try light performance instead of standard. If you are really worried about battery lasting, maybe think about a power bank you can carry with you. Just to charge up if your phone does get low on battery.

Hi @sarasphotobox

Samsung phone's battery % has been known to drop pretty fast from 100% to 90% and then stabilises.

Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²³ Ultra 512Gb in Phantom Black.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

I wouldn't say power saving mode will prolong your long term battery life Sara. Please don't worry about a 1% battery drop when taking pictures as your phone could have dropped that 1% at that exact moment anyway. This is all normal, especially when your phone is all new and learning your battery usage. My S23U took about 10 days to learn my usage pattern and settle down. I hope you really enjoy your new device, but it is good that this forum is here for any questions you do have. 👍👍
