Screen goes black and it's so annoying

Hi all, what the f**** is that sensor in the top of  screen?? every time I'm scrolling or playing mobile games and with my hand touching that sensor screen goes black. especially if you keep your phone horizontally . why Samsung have so many issues??

Sounds like the proximity / light sensor.

This turns off the display to stop accidentally pressing the screen while in a call to stop activating any other functions etc, and preserves battery usage from the display.
