Why are phone phone trade in offers in the US far superior than what's offered in the UK.

For example, $1000 if you buy a fold 5, trading in a flagship device in the US, in the UK, for the Samsung S22 Ultra £420. No comparison. Come on samsung where's the fairness in that?

Who else thinks this is unfair?

@smg1: I'm sorry to hear that you feel this way. There is a Trade In promotion that is currently active on the Samsung US website which is offering significantly higher prices for trade in devices, versus their usual value. For instance, you can get up to $1000 for the Z Fold4 if you trade it in for the Z Fold5, however this would usually be $405 (the market value). In the UK, you can get up to £500 for the Z Fold4 when trading in for the Z Fold5, which is actually a little bit better when you don't take the promotion into account. There are also factors such as exchange rates and taxes to consider, as tax is not included in the price of retail items in the States.

Trade in offers are usually subsidised by network providers for particular contracts that get taken out with the purchase of the new device.
Unlocked phones are not as common thing in America
Like @AndrewL has said, the prices don't include the local taxes there. So tax gets added at the time of purchase.
It's a very different setup in the U.S to what we have here.
On the surface it looks like they are getting great deals, but it kind of works out similar in the end

Think this has come up  just a few times on the Community :smiling-face:  Things are not always as they seem on the surface.  Apple's  greater dominance in the US also   effects strategy in relation to deals  The US is also a bigger market and there  may will be differences in costs  as well as the other factors already mentioned. Tech goods in Europe are generally more expensive.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.
