Tonight I had a chance with some breaks in the clouds to see how the Galaxy S22 Ultra goes with capturing the Moon.
I got my telescope out and let it cool down enough to use it.
For those interested, I will explain a bit how I set up first with the results at the end.

I have a Skywatcher Skyliner 250P.
It's a 10 inch Dobsonian telescope and is a basic affordable telescope.
I have spent a bit on lenses and have my favourites for mobile phone photography.

image

For tonight I have used a 6.5mm Morpheus lens and a Celestron 2X Balow lens.
To mount the phone I have an Orion SteadyPix.

image

It's not the best out there, but grips the lens OK even with the heaviest of phones

So with the phone mounted securely. Notice I don't use a case. This is because I get a better grip on the phone and it's much steadier.

Next is to go into the camera and straight into the Pro mode setting.
You want complete control, without the software trying to focus and adjust etc
Initially I just put the focus into manual.

image

I just used the telescope to focus and because I cannot touch the phone to take a photo, as it will wobble the image and give a blurry shot.
I used the S Pen as the camera trigger.
So some adjustments to the camera settings and got a few shots before the clouds rolled in again.

On a clearer night I can get better results, but the S22 Ultra is doing a great job so far.
There will definitely be more to come, and some planet photos later in the year

Would take a bit more community activity and social media work to get even considered for a roll like that I think 😁
Definitely get more photos though.
Will be getting the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Venus later on in the year
I have high hopes of great results with this S22 Ultra

You have some classy astronomy and photography equipment there Glenntech and boy are you integrating your S22 Ultra with it all well!.. I have never seen clearer images of the moon at high magnification captured by the lens of a smartphone. I would be fascinated to see what kind of images you could take of Mars and Jupiter and Saturn or even M31 and M51 and M81 and M82 galaxies with your brilliant set up?. Fantastic jaw dropping work!. 👍👍👍
