Instagram is once again crashing the whole system and locking up.

Happened with previously Samsung devices.

Seems like it's always an issue with Samsung devices. Other androids seem fine.

My phone keeps restarting overnight since the android 13 update, and one night was very hot, really slow and unresponsive. Like something on it was massively overworking the CPU. Despite trying several YouTube techniques to solve this nothing has worked. Weirdly however when I tried safe mode overnight which disabled virtually evey one of my apps, Instagram was still allowed to work!? And the phone still restarted overnight. I'll try disabling or deleting Instagram tonight and see if it restarts again. My last option apart from waiting for Samsung to do an update, which they may not, is a full reset, which I really don't want to do. Thanks for your post. Gives me hope!!

I disabled Facebook ages ago. I've just checked, and it's still the same. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks Jonno.

Samsung Members Star ★★
Options

Additional ideas though some Members may already have tried at least some of  them:

Firstly go to Apps-Instagram-Storage-Delete cache and Data.  you will then need to log in again, if that does mot work try reinstalling Instagram if you still wish to use the app.

However it may become advisable to wipe the cache partition (which can help with crashes).  Temporary files are deleted but no Data is lost.

Follow these steps:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Connect To Computer or plug in USB-C Headphones , Press and hold the Volume Up key and then press and hold the Power key
3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

can also repair apps from the same Recovery Menu.  A factory reset may be necessary after other troubleshooting ,however ensure Data is backed up before going down this route.

Personally have not had this issue on any Samsung Device  (though only moderate user of the app) and always clear the cache partition after updates.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

My Device- S21 Ultra 5G ( SM-998B/DS ) CSC= BTU , 12GB/256GB
One Ui 5.1,Android 13 .

Thank you for the detailed post James. I did wipe the partition cache. But unfortunately it didn't work. I'll try disabling Instagram tonight and see what happens. It may not be the culprit, but worth a try. The Instagram app actually updated a couple of hours ago so if it is that, it may be sorted now anyway.
Like you, I've never had this issue before. Just seems to be my S20. I have two friends and my dad also with android 13 updated S20's and none have any issues, so probably something and nothing. Anyway, I will post tomorrow with what happens. Always information for future reference!

I use Instander, and haven't experienced any issues whatsoever 👍

It worked!! Disabled Instagram last night and had no restarts. The Samsung Members app also never detected or asked me to send an error report either- something it's done several times since the Android 13 update. I'll keep Instagram enabled tonight as it did an update yesterday, but it's looking very promising. Any changes, and I'll update this forum. But thank you for your help!

Having the exact same situation here, each time I dare to open Instagram, the whole phone freezes for over a minute or so.

And of course, my phone is restarting itself too.
