A soft reboot by turning the phone Off and On may help @truffle
Try turning the VPN off and On and check any relevant settings.
If not then have a look at any Internet chatter that maybe connected to the same VPN as your using.

Hi @truffle in addition to @BandOfBrothers advice ensure the VPN has the latest update ,you may need to delete cache/Data and Reset the Network connections. Did you wipe the cache partition after the update which is generally advisable ? can also Repair Apps from the Recovery Menu.
