Not weird at all, I have one of these as well and this keyboard is driving me bonkers, it's not spaced well at all. I continually misspell "that" with "thar"...I sound like a freaking pirate half the time. I can generally guarantee that when using my phone's keyboard that will happen 98% of the time.
Someone below suggested predictive text, that didn't work for me either...because it would replace words with wrong words.
