I have checked mine... 56GB of system storage used.
I agree it is quite a lot of space used for the operating system in the storage... but I can't give you any reasons for the high system size used.
Thankfully I bought the 512GB model so it is not such an issue ... but if the owned phone is a 128GB model that is a big chunk of storage gone to the system !
One thing I would usually do each year is a complete factory reset when the new android update arrives.
I haven't done it yet, but will likely in a week or two. Obviously this process takes quite some time to factory reset and reinstall apps.
I treat this as a bit of a clean up and only install apps that I have used in the past couple months. A clean install can also resolve some compatibility issues.
I did this last year in the upgrade from Android 11 to 12... and it made a big difference resolving incompatibilities with some apps !
