It's a shame chat/RCS messages doesn't seem to have taken off...I'm just trapped into using WhatsApp as the default messaging app with 99% of contacts!

and why do you think that you will be stuck with WhatsApp, I think that the RCS platform is a good option, while WhatsApp fails in many things,

Samsung messages has an RCS option although I use Google Messages with RCS. As @GusB points out though, everyone uses WhatsApp and I only use RCS with the wife and kids.
