I'm guessing here but the heat issues could be Samsung pushing the Exynos chip to its limits in order to compete with its competitor the Snapdragon? Use the phone for extended periods of time and the Exynos is back to a 20% performance difference. It will be interesting to see how it performs a few months down the line once Samsung has pushed whatever updates are needed to resolve the heat and battery issues.
