Hello,

So I have been using the s21ultra for about 14 months now. The original screen protector that came with it came off at around month 5, and since then I did not have a screen protector (as I never have any issues) no scratches no nothing, I never use cases either.

However about 3 months ago while I was going abroad to travel I bought a leather flip case from amazon that had 3 pockets for credit cards (I never put any cards in) but about 2 weeks ago when I removed the case I noticed that right by where the card lines are, I have shadows on the screen glass.

(it's not a LCD burn in or anything as the LCD is working fine) it's only visible during the day, when under direct light, and if the screen is fully cleaned its barely visible, however as soon as the screen collects the finger oils it shows up)

Never experienced anything like this with my previous Samsung phones.

Im very annoyed and I couldn't find anything on Google about this so I'm hoping that I get some advice from the Samsung community.

Thanks in advance.

I had same kind of leather wallet case and i had 3 lines on my display from the card pokets of case i didn t used any card but still got those lines on display.I think the case was polishing the display and you can t do nothing about it i was lucky i had screen protector aswell. So no polishing on the display only on screen protector.

I'm wondering if it might be the oleophobic coating that was damaged by it, i read that it's possible to apply that again but not sure

Once the oleophobic coating has worn away it can be re applied.

Unfortunately I've seen before that cases can affect the coating.

Personally I remove the plastic screen protector and always fit the Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector.

I didn't use any cards though its just the leather pockets that caused it

Possibly a combination of the leather and any stitching/ raised lips / edges on the case maybe caused this @Specialist

Most likely, but I think it's just the oleophobic coating and no permanent damage on the glass, as when I clean it properly its not visible under direct sunlight, but as soon as you put a finger on it, it comes back

My screen protector is starting to show wear and tear. I use a spigen back cover to protect the edges and camera bump. However I need to look at replacing the screen protector sooner or later.

I still have my original screen Protector and have a bald spot where my thumb rests on the screen while playing call of duty.

Similar to yours.

Also wondering now whether it's just on the screen Protector or the actual screen 🤔

Yet I can't be arsed to check as the screen protector is still going strong.

It's probably where the flap moves side to side when in the pocket across the screen. A bit like a saw, leather is very strong, people use leather straps to sharpen knives and blades so imagine what it does to the oleophobic coating! Plus leather is tanned using chemicals which maybe won't help. Once the screen coating is worn fingerprint grease sticks more to those area's making them more visible. Hope this helps but I use Whitestone dome glass screen protectors, they are excellent and if you use one on your screen it will completely hide scratches and marks making them invisible.
