Galaxy S21 Series

I'm posting in the S21 section but this affects almost all models of Samsung phones according to reports...

https://www.sammobile.com/news/have-an-old-samsung-phone-lying-around-check-its-battery/

https://www.androidpolice.com/batteries-inside-older-samsung-phones-swelling-disproportionately-high...

Have any of you experienced an issue with your phone battery expanding? I haven't but then I don't hold on to my old devices.

My advice comes from being a UK Samsung phone user.

Current Devices:
  • Samsung S21 Ultra 5G 256Gb > Model: SM-G998B/DS.
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic > Model: SM-R890NZSAEUA.
  • Samsung Galaxy Buds+ > Model: SM-R175.

It happens occasionally on all older devices when batteries get to a point.
HTC used to suffer badly. But again the phones were older.
I don't watch Mr Clickbait as he's comes up with all sorts just to get views.

What we do know is that Samsung put a huge amount of hardwork into battery R&D.
So I wouldn't worry very much about it

You should watch the video! It's not just him in it but JerryRigEverything and marques brownlee.

No I will pass. Rather not give him the airtime.
All batteries will eventually fail in some way, but usually you'd know it's on the way out if it's just not performing properly anymore.
Be either new device or replacement battery

Then why comment? This isn't simply about batteries failing due to old age. It includes phones such as the Fold 2 and S20 FE! Also worth mentioning that Samsung had collected his phones (more than 50 days ago) and have failed provide a reason, repair or replacement of any kind.

Anyway, if anyone has any Samsung phones hidden away in an old draw then best go take a look. Better safe than sorry!

I did watch the video and came to a couple of conclusions.

1. Majority of the phones were not in use for long periods after initial use.

2. I have had quite a few Samsungs from the S2, S6, s7edge, s9+ and now the S21 ultra and have not had this issue personally.

The only bulging battery scenario I had was an old Nokia phone which was lying in a drawer forgotten.

3. One interesting thing I had with my S21 ultra was the moisture detected issue.

Look at my profile and have a read.

Not to mention as they pointed out that Samsung is the biggest android manufacturer around so there are bound to be more duds around than other manufacturers.

It is interesting.

Yeah I have an old HTC U Ultra and U11 plus, LG V20, older Huawei phones with various others.
Even old Nokia 3310 and Sony Ericsson phones.
My Note FE that's based on the Note 7 is still perfectly fine.
Non of them have an issue
Well not yet I guess
Think you'd have to be unlucky. But the potential is there I guess
