My S20 Ultra got the July update this morning, this is the first update since I setup a Work Profile using Intune Company Portal App. After the update the Work Profile was missing/deleted. Is this normal behaviour for a Samsung phone? TIA.

Hi @scook94

It's rare but yes things can be lost during an update.

This is why it's important to back upto Samsung Cloud.

I also use Dropbox but other online vaults are also available.

Personally I've been fortunate not to lose things during the update process but I do back up anyway.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

I have just wiped my S20U because of photo not showing up in gallary after taking by camera app.

My Google account is a G-Suite account. The G-Suite is own by me but not my company. Usually I use one account for personal and the other one for work profile. During phone initialization it should let me choose to create work profile or not. In Google Admin, "work profile" is set as "user opt-in" rather than "enforced". However, after sign-in now, my account is forced to transformed into a work profile. I have to set "disabled" in Google Admin so as to make my account into personal profile on S20U.

Is it a bug? Or a limitation on Samsung device? I have been using Pixel and Sony before using S10 and S20U. I am not familiar with this setting on Samsung.

Thanks.

After you set up your Android device, you can temporarily turn off your work profile. Then you can use your device without any work interruptions at the weekend or when you’re on vacation.

With your work profile turned on, work and personal apps run side by side.  When you turn it off, work apps don’t run, generate notifications, or consume data or the battery. You also can’t access work apps or widgets. If you try, you’ll see a message asking if you want to turn your work profile on again.

Work mode is a device setting, so your administrator can’t turn it on or off.

How to

Some of this information might not be the same on every device.

  1. On your device, go to Settings >
     Accounts >
     Work profile settings.
  2. Tap the Work profile switch to turn it On or Off.

Tip: Quickly turn your work profile on or off by using 2 fingers to swipe down from the top of any screen, including your lock screen. Then, tap the Work mode tile. If you don’t see the work mode tile, you can add it if your device supports it. Tap the edit icon at the bottom of the panel.

When your work profile is turned off, the work icon in the Quick Settings panel is dimmed and the system Settings app shows a message that lets you know it's turned off.

Hope this helps you turn off work mode

Thanks for your information. But I am afraid you have misunderstood my problem.

I own a G-Suite account. I want to add both personal@mydomain.com and work@mydomain.com onto my S20U. Normally, during initialization, I add personal@mydomain.com and my phone should ask if I want to set it up as a personal profile or a work profile, and I would choose "personal". Afterwards, I add work@mydomain.com and set it up as a work profile. However, what is now happening is, I input personal@mydomain.com, S20U set it up as a work profile without asking me. I have tried setting up work@mydomain.com first, and choose "use my phone for work and personal" and set my personal@mydomain.com afterwards, after a period of time (maybe 15 minutes), S20U requires me to authorize my accounts again, and force personal@mydomain.com converting into a work profile.

I want to test it on my Xperia phone, but unluckily... it seems to be out-of-order now... bad luck

I have just tried on Sony Xperia XZ3. It forced my first signed-in account to be a work profile, instead of letting me decide if I want to use personal or work. So I would say it is G-Suite setting problem, or Google device policy bug. I am talking to G-Suite help. May anyone having this problem reflects this possible bug to G-Suite help as well? Thanks.

Okay I have contacted G-Suite and confirmed the issue. According to the Google agent, starting from Android 9, no more "personal profile" is allowed for Android account created with G-Suite email address. The Android account has to be in a "work profile". Although you see an option in "Google Admin" allowing "user opt-in" for "work profile", it is for the old "Google Device Policy" only. So OP may have installed "Google Device Policy", Samsung caught up with Google's updated in the July update, and then "Google Device Policy" deleted the G-Suite account without asking.

Exactly the same here. S21 Ultra updated the other day and now there are no signs of the 'Work Profile' ever existing. Where are my work emails now?

We're making an Android app to sync contacts/calendar/tasks with a server of the users choice. For this we also internally store things in System accounts (so that it is well integrated). We now get a few reports by users that all our system accounts get deleted during a firmware/os update. The account is still visible inside our app - but the corresponding system accounts are gone. It is really annoying since people must delete and setup the whole account again. This now also happened on a HUAWEI device - so there seems to be a general bug in the Android core system when initializing or storing system accounts during the update process...
