Hi I've had my Samsung S20 5G since June but because I've been working from home on WiFi in lockdown the entire time I had never really paid attention to whether I had 4G. Then during a recent 3 day on off power cut I realised I didn't have it. Phone reception is very poor where I live and my phone was all bit useless to me without WiFi. Over the past couple of weeks I've paid more attention and realised I don't have 4G anywhere including in either of the two nearest large towns. I've done all the network setting checks and even done a factory reset. I've spent hours on a live chat and been told my phone isn't 4G enabled. The solution? Send it in for repair but I simply can't manage without it for 3 weeks. I've tried the sim in my daughters iPhone on the same network and get 4G fine. I've also just tried putting the sim in the second sim slot as suggested on different thread but that doesn't seem to have done anything. Any ideas? I'm really loathe to send it off if it's actually a phone software problem.

Can you check in Settings and Connections, Mobile Networks, Network Mode and see what's chosen @Lindy8

i.e in my phone this shows as…

Also check the Apn's settings in your phone which controls data connection.

You should have had some network type set up messages when you first inserted the sim card.

Some networks have an OTA type text set up option etc so the set up messages can be sent again.

Check your Network's help pages on Internet set up.

They can also be manually keyed in.

In the same Settings screen I talk about above tap on Access Point Names and cross reference what's in your phone to what your network says they have to be.

In the UK we have a doorstep repair service provided by Samsung so maybe check if they offer the same where you reside.

Also in the UK we have Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung Service Centres in which a phone can be checked over. (In the UK however we are in full national lockdown so non essential store's are currently closed. )

I appreciate fully that you don't want to be without 4G via using your current Samsung phone but sometimes it's inevitable unfortunately.

I wish you all the best with this.

Hi thanks for the reply. I added a new APN configuration as part of the live chat but it didn't help. although that's now gone since I removed the sim and tried it in tje sim 2 slot. I'm in the UK although as you say we've now gone into lockdown. it was purchased through Tesco so it is them I have been told to send it back to for repair. in the Tesco Mobile store they were clueless. I will check out the doorstep repair service. short term I can live without 4G but I resent paying for a 5G enabled phone and package when I don't have it. I don't have a spare phone I can use while mine is in for repair and am a single parent so the only access I would have to another phone is my daughters but she is at her Dads half the time plus at 13 her phone is surgically attached to her! interestingly I never got any network setup messages when I first got my phone. I do wonder if this is the origin of the problem.

Try your daughters sim in your phone.

On the same page as the APN setting, you can also check and change your network modes. Is it set to 5G? Does it show the other options. If it is set to 5G it will also support everything below it, so LTE/4G, 3G, 2G etc.

You're very welcome for my reply @Lindy8

You made me smile when you said “ her phone is surgically attached to her!  ”  :winking-face:

I have a Granddaughter coming up to 13 and she's exactly the same.

Tesco as the seller of the phone do have a duty of care to support you but Samsung will also want to help too.

I do wish you all the best with this.

Thanks. Yes already checked all the network settings. All present and correct and it doesn't matted with I select still nothing more than H+ (3g). My daughters sim doesn't have 4g in my phone either. First thing we checked. So definitely a problem with my phone.

This worked for me. I hadn't been out much an tried swapping to sim tray 2 which temporarily worked but this worked instantly.

If you're in the UK goto Vodafone website and use this an it'll work
