Hi, I used to have a habit of taking out my SD card when updating my software, due to a previous update corrupting my sd card, ever since then I'd always take it out.
I Don't know how to help, for future reference always backup to some form of cloud or have a spear sd card to store all your pictures & videos on & then keep one in the device.
Sd cards are pretty cheap nowadays.
