@madmo221: Please be advised that the Scene Optimiser feature must be enabled prior to capturing an image. With this in mind, please head to the Camera app > Tap the cog symbol in the top right > Scene optimiser > Toggle it on. Now, when lining up a shot in Photo mode, look for a small, swirling circle in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder, and tap it to enable Scene Optimiser. 'Scene optimiser: On' will appear on screen, and the swirling symbol will change to reflect the subject of the photo. I hope this helps.
