S20 Ultra forces 60hz even on games which support 90/120FPS

Update: You can fix this problem by disabling GOS. I found this out quite long ago but I forgot to edit this post, sorry about that guys. GOS = (Samsung) Game Optimising Service. To disable it follow this tutorial, I'd highly recommend using the package disabler method and not ADB as the ADB method does not seem to persist after a reboot:

@Anonymous User what are you guys doing?? I have tested pretty much every single 90-120FPS supported title and so far only ONE of them actually works, Subway surfers. All other 90/120fps supporting games do not work because for some reason OneUI/Android scales the display down to 60Hz.

I'm guessing Samsung have implemented some sort of API that allows a game to tell the phone to run at 120hz which would suggest why subway surfers works (it's on the galaxy store, maybe they work closer with Samsung) but for me this is unacceptable considering other device manufacturers use a more unified method of refresh rate scaling.

Why is it that over 60fps titles work perfectly on other variable refresh rate phones (Pixel 4, OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 8 Pro, Nubia RedMagic 5G, Black shark etc.) But on Samsung there's some sort of unique API used instead. This is causing fragmentation, you know a lot of developers will ignore this. Why can't you guys just use the same method as other phone manufacturers? I'm guessing android itself has its own variable refresh rate API which is why all these other phones have no problem with scaling the refresh rate up on these titles.

There are many games that support unlocked framerate now and the S20 Ultra as of now can't take advantage of any of them, I guarantee any game you guys are playing besides subway surfers is running at 60fps and you can check this with game tools.

Some games which are able to support 90 and 120FPS but DONT on the S20 series because of the way Samsung has implemented variable refresh rate include:

I paid a lot of money for my S20 Ultra @Anonymous User please get your 💩 together. Also please release an update for WQHD @ 120hz, I don't understand how other companies are releasing phones with both WQHD + 120hz and you guys haven't done it for the S20 series yet even though you make all the displays for these other companies. Thanks.

samsung offers the 120hz, however if the app does not support 120hz they cannot run it.

You have to contact the game developer

I Agree to the post, samsung does not reply to forums or support. Not sure what to do

guys again it is developer fault.

Not all the games have been designed to run at more than 60hz, so the phone turns of 120hz if the maximum framerate supported by the game is 60hz because 120hz in that case would be useless.

As far as i know the games which support 120hz are cod mobile, fortnite and pubg i think and few others.

However it is up to the developer of the game to make it possible to run the game at 120hz, samsung for once has nothing to do with that.

Yes of course.

But it is up to the dev to correctly support the device...

Listen and read carefully the post by OP. Whenever a new device comes out like onplus 8,oneplus 8 pro or google pixel last year which supports more than 60hz. All the apps and games what natively supports more than 60hz runs fine with these devices. WITHOUT ANY UPDATE FROM THE DEVELOPERS. WHY DO DEVELOPERS HAVE TO UPDATE FOR SAMSUNG? WHEN THEY MADE IT UNIVERSAL AND GAMES WORK FOR ONEPLUS 8
