Does any s20 ultra owner experience problems with the display when sitting in the sun the screen dims to a level that you can barely see? Even though the screens brightness is on max when checking.
Same Problem with my exynos s20 ultra. Such a whack Phone!!!
There is no way to avoid it. It is not a bug it's a feature 😂 .. I believe it's there to protect the phone from overheating so much that could defect the battery. I live at a warm place and at summer time is really annoying when outside under the sun I can't see anything, taking a photo impossible. Inside never had a problem. I have asked others with high end newer phones of same brand or not and have the same problem, in contrast of that phones with mid or low CPUs seems to behave better. So when choosing a competitor keep in mind this. Now after so much time using the phone I get used of it ... but still believe the user should have the option to overpass the system configuration even if it should sacrifice the performance etc
My S9 screen would get noticeably brighter in camera mode. My s20 Ultra it's just barely bright enough to be able to use the camera.
Is this something we just have to live with? I don't see any solution posted anywhere.
I've got a similar problem on my 2 yo Samsung Galaxy S20 5G.
The adaptive brightness is turned off but when in low light environments the phone won't let me boost the brightness more than what the brightness slider let's you choose after 65/70% of its lenght.
This problem also occur when using the phone in normal indoor day light, the phone won't let you select a brightness level past 80/85% of what the brightness slider will give you. Letting you move the slider to full but capping the brightness at the 80/85% mark on the slider.
Furthermore, when the phone is on direct sunlight the brightness gets to its real 100% potential and colors become saturated and bright as hell. You can see this behaviour if you're using Whatsapp indoor and then move outdoor. The semi-dark green color of the app layout becomes a pale mint-like green.
I've wrote to the support via Samsung Members but they won't acknowledge the problem and are strangely unable to emulate it on their phones. I will probably switch to another brand for my next phone even if I've been with Samsung since 2010 (first ever smartphone I had)..what a shame!
Hi! I have the same problem with my S20 FE 5G. Did a factory reset which didn't resolve the issue before I started researching and found out that it obviously is a "feature" not a bug. Any chance to override that automatic dimming at certain temperature? The phone is almost unusable in bright sunlight.
After last update I have seen great improvement. I believe the screen now operates at about 75% of the brightness at direct sun and temps above 30 Celsius. Can you crosscheck ? I can finally take photos and read text without problem.
Install the App "Alliance Shield X" in Play Store.
Open the App, create an account and gain access to everything the app demands.
Click on "App Manager" and search for "Samsung Device Health Manager Service"
Click on this entry and choose the "activity" tab
There you choose the 2nd entry and select "open"
Enable "Brightness limit off" and "CP TM off"
Now your screen won't decrease its brightness by itself. Keep in mind that your screen/device can get very warm. Once again, do this at your own risk. I am not sure if the OLED screen can get damaged by the temperatures it might reach.
